The electrons always want to fly out in a straight line. However, they can be forced into a circular path using magnets. In doing so, they emit energy in the form of light, synchrotron radiation. Three different types of magnets are used to operate BESSY II.
Im Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie (HZB) forschen wir an Lösungen für eine klimaneutrale Gesellschaft. Dafür entwickeln wir neue Materialien, zum Beispiel Solarzellen, Batterien und Katalysatoren für die Produktion von grünem Wasserstoff. An der Röntgenquelle BESSYII in Adlershof untersuchen wir nicht nur den Aufbau dieser Materialien, sondern auch chemische und elektronische Prozesse.
